UPDATE TO HUNTER PROFILE 2005
KATHY & EDDIE SMOAK
Kathy & Eddie were
booked to arrive for the late season Elk hunt which is a ten
day hunt that also covers the first six days of our deer season. Though they had Moose tags as
well as Elk, their priority was to concentrate on the Elk hunting. Their
guide was Jeff Baher who they had hunted with before. As
they are attuned to each others hunting habits, they get along
famously. Both Eddie and Kathy were able to harvest a trophy
6 point bull within the days allotted for Elk hunting. The
only problem Jeff seems to have in guiding the Smoaks is Eddie’s
refusal to smile for the camera!
The deer season opening with
high expectations, snow and lower temperatures. The snow would continue to fall and exceed
normal throughout the entire deer season. Kathy had harvested
a Trophy Muledeer buck in 2005, so was now out to bag a Whitetail. After
several days of passing up bucks, their patience paid off and
Kathy had an opportunity to a big one! He slipped away. A
few days later, Eddie harvested a dandy Whitetail while still
holding out for the ‘Monster Mulie’. Kathy
had another opportunity for a dream Whitetail that eluded them
once more, while Eddie passed up several great Muledeer. Jeff
may not be able to guide them on their return in 2007 and 2008. We
don’t think his constitution can handle much more ‘passing
up’!.
As ever, Kathy and Eddie
are a joy to have in camp and on the hunting trail. We wish them great happiness in their new
roles as grandparents in 2007. May their trails be long
and their fires burn hot!
HUNTER PROFILE 2005
This Florida couple first
hunted with Horseshoe Creek Outfitters
in the fall of 2004. They enjoyed the trip so much that they booked
again for 2005. Their plan was to return for a spring Black Bear
hunt as well as another fall hunt. Their goal was to experience
this area at different times of the year.
In 2004 they hunted Moose,
Elk and Black Bear. Though they didn’t harvest anything
they did enjoy seeing a large number of game, and a freak snow
storm! They enjoyed the atmosphere at the lodge, which is a welcome
relief from their busy and fast paced life in Florida. A spring
Black Bear trip seemed in order.
Two six foot plus brown
bears were harvested on their spring hunt. Kathy’s trophy
took second place at the annual awards convention for Northern
BC Guides and Outfitters.

Their 2004 hunt was in
September so they chose to come back this time in mid October
2005. Again they were hunting Moose and Elk although this time
they had more luck harvesting what they had tags for. Eddie got
a 6 x 6 Elk and Kathy harvested a nice mature Bull Moose. This
couple’s prime reasons for coming back to Horseshoe Creek
are relaxation and the opportunity to observe an abundance of
game. Many afternoons were spent doing just this. A bonus of harvesting
the animals they pursued only added to their experience.

At the conclusion of their
October hunt, Kathy re-booked for a cancellation hunt that had
just come up for November. This was an opportunity she wasn’t
going to miss even though Eddie was off to Saskatchewan hunting
in November and could not accompany her on this trip. Kathy bagged
a great Muledeer, this trophy again placed her second in the Muledeer
category at the Northern BC Guides and Outfitters 2005 Convention.
This Florida couple is
not finished at Horseshoe Creek Outfitters. They are returning
in late October 2006 for another two on one hunt for Moose, Elk,Whitetail
and Muledeer. We’re sure they’ll have good opportunities
for harvest, and good opportunities for observing a part of Northeastern
BC they have grown to love.
